Historical Origins

The Hong Kong Chinese Dentists Association is the first registered dental community in Hong Kong. Founded in the 1940s, its pioneering members included Dr. G.C. Chau, Dr. C.N. Ling, Dr. K.H. Chan, Dr. K.M. Wu, Dr. J.S. Leung, Dr. C.P. Tsang, and Dr. Y.F. Heung. Shortly after its inception, however, the association's meetings were suspended due to the outbreak of the Pacific War and World War II.

Post-War Reconstruction

Following the end of the war in 1946, many members returned to Hong Kong and proposed reorganizing the association. A committee board was established through a democratic vote, resulting in the election of five standing committee members. In 1947, the association secured its first physical office by renting a space on the second floor of 90 Wellington Street in Central, laying a firm foundation for membership growth.

Structural Reforms

In 1960, the 14th board transitioned to a Chief Supervisor System to streamline operations. This new structure established a Council of fifteen members and a Supervision Committee of five supervisors. Additionally, the official term length was extended from one year to two years, beginning with the 16th Supervision Council in 1962.

Permanent Headquarters and Incorporation

To secure a permanent home for the growing organization, a Site Preparation Committee was formed. Through member donations and collective efforts, the association purchased multiple properties, including the 8th floor of the Alhambra Building on Nathan Road in Kowloon, which serves as its permanent address today. In 1966, the association officially registered as a limited company in Hong Kong, establishing a formalized Committee Board to manage its affairs under modern regulations.

Modern Leadership

The association's legacy of leadership includes past Chairmen Dr. H.K. Leung, Dr. G.C. Chau, Dr. Eric Y.S. Leung, and Dr. W.F. Heung. Dr. Lawrence Lam (BBS, MH, SBStJ, DDM) serves as the 24th Chairman. Under his leadership, the association continues to expand its network of consultants and committee members to drive future development.
